Product Function

The Solid Carbide Spot Drill Bit for Aluminum is specifically engineered to machine non-ferrous materials (Aluminum, Copper, Brass, Plastics). Unlike standard drills, this tool focuses on:
  • Preventing Built-Up Edge (BUE): Aluminum is "sticky." Our high-polish flute design prevents the material from welding to the cutter, which is the #1 cause of tool failure in aluminum.
  • High-Speed Centering: Designed to operate at high RPMs typical of aluminum machining, ensuring precise hole location accuracy.
  • Superior Surface Finish: The sharp, ground cutting edge leaves a burr-free, mirror-like finish on the chamfer or spotted hole.

Product Features

  • Material: Premium Ultra-Fine Micro Grain Carbide (K10/K20 grade), optimized for toughness to withstand high-speed shock.
  • Surface Treatment: Mirror Polished / Uncoated. (Optional DLC - Diamond-Like Carbon coating available upon request for extreme durability). Note: We do not use AlTiN coating on this model to avoid chemical affinity with aluminum.
  • Sharp Geometry: Features a sharper rake angle and larger chip gullets compared to steel drills, allowing for aggressive shearing of soft materials.
  • Versatility: Excellent for Aluminum (6061, 7075), Brass, Copper, Bronze, Gold, Silver, and Engineering Plastics (Acrylic, Nylon).
  • Wide Size Range: Micro-spotting from 0.3mm up to 12mm standard sizes.

Client Benefits

  • Eliminate Scrap: The mirror finish prevents chips from sticking to the tool, reducing the risk of snapping the drill or scarring the workpiece.
  • High Efficiency: Capable of running at high RPMs, significantly reducing cycle time compared to HSS or coated steel drills.
  • Burr-Free Results: The sharp cutting geometry ensures clean hole entry, often eliminating the need for a secondary deburring step.
  • Fast Delivery: Huge stock of metric and micro sizes ready to ship globally.

FAQ

Q1: Why is this drill uncoated (silver color)? A: Standard coatings like AlTiN (Aluminum Titanium Nitride) contain aluminum. When cutting aluminum, the material sticks to the coating (chemical affinity). Our Uncoated, Mirror-Polished carbide is the best standard solution to prevent this sticking.
Q2: Can I use this on Steel? A: It is not recommended. While the carbide is hard enough, the sharp edge geometry designed for soft aluminum may chip when hitting hard steel. For steel, please buy our AlTiN coated "Steel Series."
Q3: Do you offer DLC (Diamond-Like Carbon) coating? A: Yes! For high-volume production, we can upgrade this tool with DLC coating. DLC has an extremely low coefficient of friction and high hardness. Contact us for a custom quote.
Q4: What is the point angle tolerance? A: Our spot drills are ground to a tolerance of +/- 1°, ensuring consistent chamfer depths and accurate centering.
